alternative way of covering a blind wall

A city is the result of an endless process of stiching and cutting. Almost like living beings, cities have the power to heal themselves in time, where wounds turn into scars and then slowly heal, striving to reach perfection. These changes are often the result of pragmatic needs and sometimes result in massive urban facelifts but small, punctual patching has the chance of changeing an urban experience for quite alot of people.

Exploded Axonometry

Covering the blind wall, the building aims to generate a verical public space. It is not just a facelift of an unfortunate wall facing a beautiful boulevard but also a way to generate more public space in a dense city center. The existing wall gets to be reinforced by adding a new leyer to it. A network of stairs and pathways allows people to have different experiences while having a look towards the historic neighbourhood. The most exterior leyer consists of a wall with differently shaped openings.

Typologies

We performed a small study in the neighbourhood in order to identify specific shapes for wall openings and windows. These shapes have been reinterpreted and transformed into new openings in the main facade making it look almost like a die cut. The reason why we chose this design approach is the existance of many mixed architecture styles, mixed in what is now the historical center of Bucharest.
